Rose Cupcakes

One of my Best Friends is getting married next year, and as part of her wedding cake she is having cupcakes.  While looking around the internet I found that people had piped the 'rose swirl' using buttercream which is just perfect as roses are part of the theme.
Anyhoo I thought I better get practicing with piping as I've never done it before and we can't have dodgy looking wedding cupcakes now can we?! Never fear though there is just under a year to go now so plenty of time to perfect it - and who doesn't like cake right for those practice attempts.

These are from my second go at piping and I think it's coming along very nicely!! They tasted delicious and my buttercream (of which i beat to within an inch of it's life - apparently that's the trick) worked brilliantly.  It's great though you just start in the middle and swirl around and taa daa - it's a rose!!
I had a go with 2 different nozzles, an open star which i painted the sides of the bag with lines of red food colouring which gave the two tone effect which was really pretty!

And a closed star I think it was called or flower maybe (need to brush up on my nozzle knowledge) which I just left white so I could compare which was which for the different effects.
I like them both equally I think, I shall have to consult with the bride to be!!
